We are all aware of using Wi-Fi for internet
connection. Internet connection is considered to be the most important thing
when you are living in this world. Wherever you go, there are places where you
have lost your internet connection.
Thus, a new technology called Li-Fi came into
existence. People get access to the internet connection just by switching on
the lights. It's about 100 times faster than your Wi-Fi connection. This
technology basically uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for data transmission.
Li-Fi is Light Fidelity, a mobile-based
wireless technology that uses light to transfer data. It uses lighter
frequencies instead of using radio frequencies for data transmission. This
technology is mostly used in the case of 5G. This technology has better features
than those that work based on radio frequencies such as cellular or Wi-Fi.
Li-Fi does not work alone; It needs a
complete ecosystem to work. The term Li-Fi, which consists of light
communications vendors, telecom operators, chipset suppliers, infrastructure,
telecom operators, lightning, end customers, device integrators, etc. in the
ecosystem, was first introduced by Professor Harald Haas in 2011 when he took
part in TEdiglob. Edinburgh.
The main purpose is to increase the
transmission speed and extend it to 802.11 by including light-medium. It also
helps determine the location of the two devices. It was launched in March 2011
by the digital communications industry. It is the type of visible light contact
connector. The physical range of this wireless communication is a visible light
spectrum, ultraviolet, and infrared radiation.
This wireless communication works at high
speeds. The speed at which Li-Fi can transmit data is up to 100 GB. This
technology is best used in areas sensitive to electromagnetic interference.
Areas in which it is mostly used are hospitals, military, inland search,
office, house, and operation theaters of aircraft cabins. Nowadays, Li-Fi is
developed in many countries around the world.
How Li-Fi Works
How Does It Work?
The work of Li-Fi is based entirely on the
work of LED. It is visible light communication technology. The first process
begins with the emission of pulses from LED light bulbs; These twigs cannot be
detected by the human eye. The information is transmitted to and from the
receiver through these pulses. The next step is to collect the data from the
receiver and then interpret the transmitted data. This process is completed at
a speed of about a million times per second.
Li-Fi is considered to be the fastest Wi-Fi
in the world. The greater advantage of using the light spectrum without the use
of radio waves is the greater bandwidth capacity of the light spectrum. The
workings of radio frequencies are more complex afterlife.
Operators need to lie in Wi-Fi circuits, antennas, and complex receivers. Li-Fi does not require circuits and antennas; It is a
direct modulation like a remote control unit with a low infrared communication
device. The reason behind the higher rate is the higher intensity of the LED
light bulb. Li-Fi's entire work is based on switching LED bulbs. This is a
bilateral network technology.
The LED light bulb features photons. When we
switch on the light and the electricity starts to go through the bulb and the
fouls are emitted. LED is a semiconductor. Therefore, it has a property that
helps in data transmission at high speeds. The property of modulation helps in
sending data at different rates.
The Benefits of Li-Fi
Advantages
of Li-Fi
- Li-Fi has a faster rate than Wi-Fi. It can deliver at multiple speeds. This technology provides even greater bandwidth.
- This technology enables interference-free communication because it is much more reliable than Wi-Fi. Data density is much higher and helps to enhance the user experience.
- Li-Fi has a lot more protection than Wi-Fi because the light is easily incorporated into the physical space. This technology provides user authentication property and accurate control.
- Li-Fi provides better localization networks. A unique IP address provides advanced geofencing. Li-Fi has unlimited advantages over Wi-Fi.
- This technology is interference-free. You can connect to any device, including microwaves, phones and Wi-Fi networks.
- Compared to Wi-Fi, this technology can work even in dense areas and is able to get a better network in saline seawater.
- It is much cheaper than Wi-Fi technology. The only expense is to include the necessary receivers in the devices.
- This technology is able to continue in non-visible ways.
Disadvantages
of Li-Fi
- Li-Fi has a limited range and is not able to pass through opaque things like walls etc.
- Due to the less wide light beam. They are able to work for 5-10 meters. However, some sensors are used to overcome these barriers and help increase the distance of networks.
